Help Us Bring
Beach Volleyball Courts
to Tiburon, CA!

as an addition to the Town of Tiburon Parks & Recreation Master plan
www.tiburonparks.com

I'd ❤️ to support this Petition!

Send us an email and we’ll let you know where & when we’re doing in person petition signings OR we can coordinate to come to you!

NOTE: This is NOT an online petition form. The Town requested we collect handwritten signatures so this is just a form to let us know you’d be willing to sign.

We respect your privacy and won’t share your email without your permission.

SEPT 18TH UPDATE: Our main focus over the next month is to collect as many signatures as possible (primarily from Tiburon residents but we love support from anyone in Marin/nearby). If you live in Tiburon and are willing to help collect a few signatures, it would go a long way toward making this project successful. Email us at tiburon@tiburonbeachvb.com OR fill out the form in yellow below and we’ll be in touch!

The next major update/event will likely be the approval of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan in November. From what we know, this will NOT be the meeting that decides whether beach volleyball courts (or other amenities) are the final choices. That decision may happen in December/January. Stay tuned!

ABOUT ME

My name is Lilly and I’m a rising 7th Grader who lives in Tiburon.  This is my first year playing beach volleyball and I love it for all of these reasons below…and much more!

I’m kindly asking you to sign my petition to the Town to add beach volleyball courts to the new Parks & Recreation Master Plan (location TBD).

More info below!

WHY BEACH VOLLEYBALL IS GOOD FOR TIBURON! 🏐

  • FUN FOR ALL AGES

I’ve seen kids as young as five and adults as old as 80 playing on beach volleyball courts.  Beach volleyball courts can help create more community by bringing kids and adults of all ages together.

  • GROWING SPORT (ESPECIALLY FOR GIRLS) BUT NOT ENOUGH COURTS NEARBY

Sadly, Marin County has very few beach volleyball courts (and none in Tiburon).  Let’s change that!

  • LOW NOISE, LOW COST & LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Beach courts are relatively simple construction of sand, nets, drainage and posts and have minimal impact on the coastal environment

Players also bring their own equipment and maintain the courts which will require little to no ongoing maintenance from the Town.

  • REVENUE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE TOWN

Tiburon could not only generate revenue from small beach volleyball tournaments coming to town but also when Tiburon/Marin-based volleyball clubs want to reserve the courts for practices.   Both would bring visitors into town to support local businesses and restaurants! Win! Win!

FAQs

Where would the beach courts be located?

TBD. There was a 2022 feasibility study that suggested multiple locations (McKegney Green, South Knoll Area) but since then the town has purchased most of the Richardson Bay Sanitation District land adjacent to McKegney Field. The Sanitation District retaining ponds would likely be another fantastic location for 3-4 beach volleyball courts due to the size, existing drainage, low coastal environmental impact and low noise impact for the homes above Tiburon Blvd.

What are the dimensions of a sand volleyball court?

A sand volleyball area is 50 feet x 80 feet for 1 court OR 90 feet x 80 feet for two courts. The actual size for a standard beach volleyball court is 26’3” x 52’6”. For more information see the 2022 feasibility study.

How else can I help?

👍COLLECTING SIGNATURES: If you’re willing to help us collect signatures, we’d love the help! Email us at tiburon@tiburonbeachvb.com

🗣️SPEAKING AT UPCOMING TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS: Speaking at the next Tiburon Town Council meeting would also be tremendously helpful. There are upcoming Town Council Meetings on October 16th, November 6th & November 20th. The more voices who speak up the better!

The Tiburon Town Council meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall in the Town Council Chambers at 1505 Tiburon Boulevard, Tiburon, CA 94920.

🌲EMAIL TIBURON PARKS ENGINEERING MANAGER DAVID ESHOO: David helps aggregate community feedback and then sends it to the Tiburon Town Council. Tell him you think the level of interest in beach volleyball courts is currently underrepresented and you believe that it should be a “high priority”!

NOTE: if you click on the email address it will start a draft email that you can add your own positive reasons!

EXTRA CREDIT = EMAILING THE TIBURON TOWN COUNCIL MEMBERS AND MAYOR:
For those of you who like going for the extra pancake, joust, cut-shot, poke, and dig (all volleyball terms 😁), you could email each or any of the Tiburon Town Council members to express your support. Their contact info is available here https://www.townoftiburon.org/163/Town-Council and below:

When will this be decided?

The next major update/event will likely be the approval of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan in November 2024. From what we know, this November town council meeting will NOT be the meeting that decides whether beach volleyball courts (or other amenities) are the final choices. That decision may happen in December/January. Stay tuned!

What are alternate uses of sand volleyball courts that the community could enjoy?

Sand Volleyball courts could also be used for fitness, beach tennis, beach soccer and even the largest sandbox your child will probably ever play in 😆.
